A. MORPHOLOGICAL OBSERVATION OF THE FOSSIL SPECIMEN AND FORMING THE HYPOTHESIS Info: A team of scientists have uncovered the following fossil specimen near Hells Creek, Montana. Procedure: Step 1: Make some general observations about the morphology (physical structure) of the fossil and record your observations in the space provided. Step 2: Your task is to use BLAST to analyze these genes and de- termine the most likely placement of the fossil species on the following fossil cladogram: Step 3: Form an initial hypothesis as to where you believe the specimen should be placed on the cladogram based on the morphological observations you made earlier. Step 4: Draw your hypothesis on the cladogram. |
Obsevation: Due to its long tail like how most birds have and its sharp and pointy like mouth is similar like a bird's mouth. Also its tiny and claw like feet show also. Eyes on the sides of head, only one visible tho. Hypothesis: If this unknown species has a long tail and sharp beak then I think that this organism will belong with the bird species. Juatification: If the unknown species has palatal valve and feathers and no fur then the unknown organism will fall under bird species. Conclusion: I came across similarities and differences between the species that help me determine common ancestry and how far of decent they are. |
